I had a fantastic day at the Great Central Railway (www.gcrailway.co.uk) with the Bachmann Collectors Club.
We started from Quorn & Woodhouse station and travelled by Bachmann Express to Loughborough via Rothley.
We were given a guided tour of Loughborough Motive Power Depot where a mix of steam and diesel locos were being worked on (mostly steam).
We then had time to explore the station before boarding the train back to Quorn via Rothley.
At Quorn we visited the Travelling Post Office coaches and saw the latest additions to the Bachmann OO, HO and N ranges. There were some lovely narrow gauge models on display too.
We had time to explore Quorn, with it's wartime theme, before boarding the train to Rothley.
At Rothley we were given a guided tour of the carriage & wagon sidings and workshop. The battle against rust was clearly visible here as the team are forced to almost rebuild coaches from scratch and what a fantastic job they do!
We had a little time to explore this station before returning to Quorn after a very interesting day out.
I would like to thank both Bachmann and the Great Central Railway for making us welcome and look forward to future events by both ventures. I will definitely return to the GCR as I would like to see the Leicester end of the line.
I will post photos here and on Flickr (but they will only be able to be viewed by Contacts, Friends and Family).
